Yaroslav Osmomysl

Yaroslav Vladimirovich Osmomysl ( Russian Ярослав Владимирович Осмомысл ; * May 26, 1119 ; † October 1, 1187 ) was a prince of the Rurikids who ruled the principality Halitsch in the Kievan Rus between 1153 and 1187 .

Life

Yaroslav was the son of Prince Wladimirko Volodarewitsch of Halisch (Galicia) and a daughter of King Koloman of Hungary . Yaroslav married Olga, the daughter of Yuri Dolgoruki , in 1149 and thus formed an alliance against the Kiev Grand Duke Isjaslav II.

He was an extraordinarily capable ruler, under whose aegis trade and craft flourished and the population grew. Nevertheless, he had to fight the rebellious boyars who, following the example of the neighboring Hungarian and Polish aristocracy, formed an influential group against the prince.

In the song of Igor , Yaroslav Osmomysl is described as a very respected Rurikid, whose word was very valid in the ranks of the other princes and who was actively involved in the politics of the subducal principalities of the Kievan Rus .

The Tschern Fortress, today's Chernivtsi, was founded under Yaroslav Osmomysl .
