Jason Martin

Jason Martin (born September 8, 1970 in Jersey , Great Britain) is a British painter .

Life

Jason Martin studied at Chelsea Art School and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Goldsmith College , London. He lives and works in London and Melides (Portugal).

Works

Martin is known for monochrome and three-dimensional painting. He uses large surfaces made of stainless steel, Plexiglas or aluminum for his work. The artist often works on a single color mass with a comb, which "leads to sensual, rhythmic surfaces that give the color a three-dimensional character and thus question the separation of sculpture and painting. Color is thematized in its material properties."

His work can be classified between minimal and expressionism . The strict reduction of the pictorial means and the gestural painting process characterize his work. The influence of light, the sensual experience and the play of color and shape are in the foreground in Jason Martin's work.

Martin got the first big response in 1997 with the Young British Artists exhibition with the exhibition Sensation at the Royal Academy of Art . His work is represented in the most important collections, for example in the Saatchi Gallery in London and in the Sindelfingen exhibition .
