La Couarde is a commune Déléguée in the French community Prailles-La Couarde with 273 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Poitou-Charentes ). The inhabitants are called Couardais .
The municipality of La Couarde merged with Prailles on January 1st, 2019 to form the Commune nouvelle Prailles-La Couarde. Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée. The municipality of La Couarde belonged to the Arrondissement of Niort and the canton of Celles-sur-Belle (until 2015 La Mothe-Saint-Héray ).

La Couarde is about 25 kilometers east of Niort . The municipality of La Couarde was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Souvigné in the north and northwest, La Mothe-Saint-Héray in the north and northeast, Exoudun in the east and northeast, Sepvret in the east and southeast, Beaussais-Vitré in the south and Prailles in the west.
