Jason Myslicki (born December 14, 1977 in Thunder Bay , Canada ) is a Canadian Nordic combined athlete .
Career
Ski jumping
As a child Myslicki practiced the Canadian national sport ice hockey and went skiing. A report about the start of the Ski Jumping World Cup in Thunder Bay made him interested in ski jumping . At the age of twelve he jumped from a K38 hill for the first time and gave up ice hockey in favor of ski jumping. At the age of 14 he was selected by Horst Bulau for the Canadian national ski jumping team. In 1995 Myslicki started as a ski jumper at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Thunder Bay. He was 48th on the large hill and 39th on the normal hill. In the ski jumping world cup he was able to qualify for two competitions in Zakopane in 1996 , but remained without points. In 1997 he ended his career as a ski jumper.
Nordic combination
Myslicki started competitive sport again in December 1998, this time as a Nordic combined athlete . He was already able to qualify for the Nordic World Ski Championships , which took place in Ramsau in February 1999 , where he finished 41st and 49th.
Jason Myslicki was not nominated by the Canadian Olympic Committee for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games . In the B-World Cups held immediately before and after the games, however, he showed appealing performances with a win and second places.
In November 2003, the Canadian scored 27th in the A-World Cup for the first time in Kuusamo . For the 2006 Winter Olympics , the Canadian NOK relaxed the qualification criteria. Myslicki was a regular starter but was hampered by two injuries before that. He first broke his shoulder, and in March 2005 he had knee surgery. The games themselves were not satisfactory for him with two 41st places. After the 2006 season, his career as a Nordic combined athlete ended for the time being.
The following winter, Myslicki tried his hand at speed skating . After eight months he gave up this sport and became a trainer for ski jumping and Nordic combined in Calgary . With a view to the 2010 Olympic Games in his Canadian homeland, he decided to start again with the combination in March 2008. In January 2009, he contested his first World Cup race in almost three years at the Olympic dress rehearsal at Whistler Olympic Park . A short time later, the Canadian achieved his best World Cup result with 23rd place in Chaux-Neuve . In Vancouver 2010 Jason Myslicki is the only representative of Canada in Nordic combined.
