Jaume Santandreu Sureda

Jaume Santandreu Sureda (born June 9, 1938 in Manacor ) is a Catalan (Mallorcan) writer, defender of the marginalized and ex-chaplain.

Life

Born on the Catalan Mediterranean island of Mallorca , Santandreu became a priest and worked as a missionary in Peru . To keep in touch with the people, he worked as a street sweeper in Palma after his return to Mallorca . He was politically active for various parties and openly lived his homosexuality . Santandreu then worked as a social worker and founded the Can Gazà house, located between Palma and Establiment , which serves as a home for impoverished men and as a hospice for those suffering from AIDS .

He has published a variety of books and won the City of Palma de Mallorca Literature Prize in 1979. In 2002 he received the Sa Pobla City Literature Prize for his novel Mortuus Dei .
