Jauna Murmu (born August 16, 1990 in Badkumrum , Odisha ) is an Indian hurdler who specializes in the 400 meter distance .

Athletic career

Jauna Murmu gained her first experience in international competitions at the Indoor Asian Games in Hanoi in 2009 , where she won the silver medal with the Indian 4 x 400 meter relay. The following year she won the bronze medal in the 200-meter run at the South Asian Games in Dhaka and at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , she won the silver medal over 400 meters behind Kazakhstani Marina Masljonko in 54.56 s . In October she took part in the hurdles at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and was eliminated there with 59.86 s in the first round. It was also used in the run-up to the Indian relay, which won the gold medal in the final with a different cast. Shortly thereafter, she finished fourth in 56.88s at the Asian Games in Guangzhou . In 2011 she was tested for the banned substance metandienone and then banned for two years until 2014.

In 2016 she won gold medals in the hurdles sprint and with the Indian relay at the South Asian Games in Guwahati . In 2017 she took part in the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar , where she finished sixth in 59.11 s. In 2018 she again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , finishing fourth there in 57.48 s. The following year she finished fifth at the South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 1: 03.41 minutes.

In 2015 Murmu became Indian champion in the 4 x 400 meter relay and in 2019 in the 400 meter hurdles. She studied sociology at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences in Bhubaneswar. She is employed by an Indian oil and natural gas company.
