Francisco Javier García Arnaiz (born December 4, 1954 in Madrid ) is a Spanish general and from 2012 to 2017 Commander in Chief of the Spanish Air Force .

Life

Javier García Arnaiz was born and raised in Madrid. He joined the Spanish Air Force in 1972 and, after completing his training at the Spanish Air Force School, was transferred to the military airfield in Torrejón . There he first flew the McDonnell F-4 and later the McDonnell Douglas F / A-18 . This was followed by transfers to the 15th fighter squadron in Saragossa and the 21st fighter squadron in Moron de la Frontera near Seville . In 2000 he became commodore of the 12th Fighter Squadron in Madrid-Torrejón.

In 2010 García Arnaiz was appointed Deputy Chief of the Air Force, two years later he took over command of the Spanish Air Force on July 27, 2012 and was promoted to General.

García Arnaiz has flown about 4,000 hours of flight time and speaks Spanish and English , French and Italian . Among other things, he took part in the UNPROFOR mission in the Balkans and was temporarily commander of the ISAF forces at Herat airport in Afghanistan . In 2006 he represented the Spanish armed forces in Brussels at NATO .
