The series ETR.324, ETR.425 ( called Jazz by the Italian state railway Trenitalia ) and ETR.526 are electric multiple units based on the platform of the Alstom Coradia Meridian . The trains are used by Trenitalia and the Trenord railway company . All series are essentially identical and only differ in their length.

The Jazz is the successor to the Minuetto , a local multiple unit that was built in large numbers for Trenitalia and other Italian railway companies. The later developed series ETR.245 for the Trenord , which is used exclusively on the Malpensa Express , is also closely related to the Jazz.

Jazz production ended in July 2019 with the delivery of the 136th multiple unit for Trenitalia. The successor is the Alstom Coradia Stream . Like the previous series, the Alstom Jazz was built at the Savigliano , Sesto San Giovanni and Bologna locations .

The trains are used for regional, S-Bahn and airport transport, accordingly there are various equipment variants with more or fewer seats or larger storage space for luggage.

The entry areas are low-floor and have a multi-purpose area for passengers with reduced mobility, bicycle parking spaces and a disabled toilet. All outer doors are provided with an extendable gap bridging. The passenger compartment is equipped with a video surveillance system, the passenger information is provided visually via monitors that alternately display the course of the journey, the next stop and live images of the interior. The passenger compartment is kept in the current Trenitalia color scheme of dark blue / orange / gray, the lighting is provided by LEDs . All seats have 230-volt sockets.

Special features of the ETR.526 series

Passenger compartment of the ER.526 series

A 6-part version of the Coradia Meridian, known as the ETR.526 series, was procured for the Autonomous Province of Trento . The brand name Jazz is not used on these trains, although they are operated by Trenitalia. Externally, the vehicles are recognizable by their contrasting white and burgundy paintwork of the province of Trento. The seats in the passenger compartment are covered with high-quality burgundy-colored loden instead of the usual dark blue synthetic leather.
