The Malpensa Express is an Italian regional express train line operated by the Lombard railway company Trenord . It connects the Milan-Malpensa airport alternately with the main train station Milano Centrale and the FNM -head station Cadorna in the center of Milan .
history
The train line to Milano Cadorna was opened to traffic with the opening of the airport and the airport railway in 2000. Since the timetable change on December 12, 2010, there have been additional Malpensa Express connections that run to Milano Centrale railway station.
course
The Malpensa Express runs between Cadorna and Saronno via the main FNM line to Saronno, but only makes an intermediate stop at Milano Nord Bovisa station. From Saronno the railway line to Novara is used, where the train branches off at Busto Arsizio Nord station on the line from FS station Busto Arsizio to Malpensa airport.
Timetable
The trains only have one car class and run in both directions every half hour. Since 2008, connections have also been offered from Malpensa to Cadorna without stopping. A non-stop journey takes 29 minutes, with intermediate stops the journey time is between 35 and 40 minutes.
Rolling stock
The line is served by double-decker Treno Alta Frequentazione (high-usage train) trains designed by Pininfarina . After the extensive outsourcing of its passenger transport to Trenord , the FNM still has 27 such compositions, some of which are in the red / green / white Malpensa Express color scheme. All of these trains are used on the Malpensa Express.
Hold
Every stop of the train has a meaning for the transfer traffic:
- Milano Cadorna : FNM terminus in the center of Milan
- Milano Nord Bovisa : FNM lines to Erba and Asso branch off, as well as connection to the Milan S-Bahn network
- Saronno : FNM operating center, separation of the lines to Como and Varese
- Busto Arsizio Nord : transfer point to the FNM trains to Novara and to the nearby FS train station at the Simplon south entrance
