Ludwig August von Dieskau
Ludwig August von Dieskau , currently mostly von Dießkau , (born July 24, 1701 in Dresden , Electorate of Saxony , † September 8, 1767 in Suresnes , France ) was a French lieutenant general of German descent. He was in command of the Battle of Lake George and was captured by the English in 1755.
Life
He came from the Saxon noble family von Dieskau and was the son of Werner von Dieskau . At first he was an Anhalt-Zerbstischer chamberlain and cornet in the bodyguard on horseback. A short time later, at the suggestion of the Marshal of Saxony and the former mistress of Augustus the Strong, who came from his family, he turned his back on the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and went to France , where he rose to the Maréchal de camp .
