Giovanni Domenico Maraldi

Giovanni Domenico Maraldi , French Jean-Dominique Maraldi (born April 17, 1709 in Perinaldo , † November 14, 1788 ibid) was an Italian- born astronomer and the nephew of Giacomo F. ​​Maraldi . Maraldi came to Paris in 1727 and became a member of the Académie des Sciences in 1731 . There he discovered two "foggy stars", which later turned out to be the two star clusters Messier 2 and Messier 15 .

The Mons Maraldi on the Earth's moon is named after him.
