Jean-François-Paul Le Fèvre de Caumartin (also: Abbé de Caumartin ) (born December 16, 1668 in Châlons-sur-Marne , † August 30, 1733 in Blois ) was a French abbot , librarian, Roman Catholic bishop and member of the Académie française .

life and work

Caumartin's father was the King's regional minister in Châlons-sur-Marne . His godfather was Cardinal de Retz . At the age of 7 he became Commander Abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Buzay . He was considered an intellectual child prodigy and received private education at the highest level. He was ordained a priest in 1693, employed as the king's librarian and elected to the Académie française (seat no. 35) in 1694. He had a wide range of scientific interests, was famous for his book collection and was also appointed to the newly constituted Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres in 1701 .

His church career led after his doctorate in theology (1697) via the Vicariate General in Tours to the bishopric of Vannes (1718-1719) and finally from Blois (1720-1733). Apart from academic speeches and occasional publications from the church administration, he left no publications.
