Jean-Jean Marcialis (born April 21, 1937 in Ajaccio , † July 4, 2013 there ) was a French football player .

As a player in the club

Youth and early professional times in Montpellier (1951–1964)

The 180 centimeter tall offensive midfielder Marcialis, who was occasionally called up as a striker , belonged to the youth department of the club AC Ajaccio from his hometown from the island of Corsica from 1951 . A little later he was appointed to the regional selection for under 15-year-olds and in 1954 managed to move to mainland France to the first division club FC Sochaux , even if he did not make it into the first team. Accordingly, he returned to Ajaccio in 1955. In 1957 and 1958 he had to do his military service in Marseille on the French south coast and then did not go home, but opted for the ES La Ciotat club located near Marseille . At the beginning of 1959 he moved to Ajaccio, where he did not play as before for AC and instead ran up for local rivals Gazélec FC Ajaccio . In doing so, he revealed his talent, so that the then 22-year-old was signed by the second division club SO Montpellier in the summer of 1959 . Initially, however, he played no role in the second division team and did not make his first appearances under professional conditions until the 1960/61 season. At the end of the season he was able to book his first title win at national level by winning the second division championship. After the promotion to the top division of France associated with the championship, he achieved his breakthrough and he became the undisputed regular player in the position of playmaker, although he hardly managed to hit his own during this time. This changed after relegation in 1963 when he scored nine goals in the second division in 1963/64.

Promotion with Ajaccio and Duo with Sansonetti (1965–1969)

When AC Ajaccio played in the second division from 1965, Marcialis was again part of the team. He was firmly established in the first eleven and made his personal best of eleven goals in the 1966/67 season his contribution to the fact that he was second division champion for the second time and that Ajaccio achieved promotion to the top division for the first time. In a game against Red Star Paris , he had ensured with two assists and one goal of his own that the Corsicans were leading 3-0 after just 25 minutes. In the same year, the second division shooter king Étienne Sansonetti was committed by the Corsican rival SEC Bastia . Soon afterwards he and Marcialis developed into a well-known offensive duo that harmonized well despite the well-considered nature of Marcialis and the rather pulsating style of play of his partner. As a result, the team shot in the course of the 1967/68 season with 59 goals behind the championship team of AS Saint-Étienne, the second most in the league and finished ninth in the table as a promoted team. While he had mostly been the preparer, Sansonetti was thanks to his 26 goals top scorer in the first division. In 1969, the relegation could be averted, but both Marcialis and Sansonetti left the club and thus ended the two seasons of their legendary duo.

Final years (1969–1972)

In 1969, Marcialis went to city rivals Gazélec FC, who are now second-rate and whose jersey he had worn briefly ten years earlier. Two seasons followed, in which he was mostly seeded and found himself with his team in the middle of the table. In 1971 he was drawn back to AC Ajaccio, who was still playing in the first division. However, he had no prospects in the team and only came to one use before he started his professional career in 1972 at the age of 35 after 104 first division games with 13 goals and 144 second division games with 45 goals. His son Louis Marcialis (* 1961) started his own career a few years later. Jean-Jean Marcialis took no further role in football and died in 2013 at the age of 76.

National team

Although Marcialis never got a call to the French national team , he ran for the unofficial selection of his home island Corsica. For this he made his debut in February 1962 in a 1-0 win over the club team OGC Nice . He was also on the pitch when they faced the French team in one of their first international matches. The match was played on February 28, 1967 in front of around 12,000 spectators in Marseille and belonged to a Corsican offensive division, which was able to score 1-0 in the second minute of the game. The game ended 2-0 and was considered a special success for the Corsicans. On April 18, 1970, he ran in a 1: 5 defeat against the island's club team of the SEC Bastia for the fourth and last time for the team.
