Louis Marcialis (born June 23, 1961 in Marseille ) is a former French football player .

Career

Marcialis, whose father Jean-Jean Marcialis (1937-2013) was also a professional footballer, was trained at the Corsican club Gazélec FC Ajaccio and moved up in 1977 at the age of just 16 in the first team, with which he went on to compete in the second highest French division . Despite his young age, he gained the trust of his coach Jean Luciani and became a regular player. At the end of his first year, at the age of 17, he was signed by the Corsican first division club and 1978 UEFA Cup finalists SEC Bastia . From the beginning he came to occasional missions, even if it took until the second season that he got a place in the starting XI. He also took part in the 1979 UEFA youth tournament with France .

In the following years he had to start the relegation battle with Bastia on the one hand; he achieved his best hit rate with twelve goals in the 1980/81 season and made it into the national cup final in 1981 , which earned him the only title of his career thanks to a 2-1 win against AS Saint-Étienne . This success also brought with it a participation in the European competition , so that Marcialis could celebrate his debut at European level. In the summer of 1982 a change of the player to RC Strasbourg was imminent, since Strasbourg named this as a condition for the handover of his actor Olivier Rouyer to Bastia; the change was averted by Bastia's veto. Accordingly, he stayed in Corsica, where, however, due to several injuries, mostly due to muscular problems, he missed numerous games in the following time.

In 1985 he turned his back on Bastia after seven years and signed with league rivals AS Nancy . During his first season with his new club, he scored ten goals, although his team was close to relegation at the end of the season. It was a knee injury that put him largely out of action during the 1986/87 season, which is why he could not prevent relegation to the second division. In view of this, he decided in 1987 to return to his also second-rate former club Gazélec FC Ajaccio. Even if he ran up there regularly, he had to accept relegation again in 1988. He remained loyal to his club until 1989, when he ended his career at the age of 28 after 186 first division games with 50 goals and 54 second division games with eight goals, for which his physical problems were decisive. Marcialis then did not take on any other functions in football.
