Jean-Louis Loday (born January 12, 1946 , † June 6, 2012 at Les Sables-d'Olonne ) was a French mathematician.

Loday attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand and was first nationwide in the Concours General in Mathematics in 1963. From 1965 he studied at the École normal supérieure . In 1975 he received his doctorate under Max Karoubi at the University of Strasbourg (K-theory algèbrique et representations de groupes). He was Research Director of the CNRS and Professor at the University of Strasbourg (IRMA). He died in a sailing accident in 2012.

Loday dealt with algebraic K-theory, algebraic topology, non-commutative geometry (cyclic homology) and algebra (theory of operads).

In 1987 he received the Prix Francœur of the Academie des Sciences.

He also published under the pseudonym Guillaume William Zinbiel (compiled from the letters of Leibniz ), after which he named Zinbiel algebras.

His doctoral students include Bruno Vallette and Christian Kassel .
