biography

Fournier was initially used in the European Cup and took third place in the overall ranking and in the giant slalom ranking in the 1976/77 season. He scored his first points in the World Cup on January 2, 1977 when he finished tenth in the giant slalom in Ebnat-Kappel . Almost a year later, on December 10, 1977, he achieved his first podium finish with third place in Val-d'Isère . With two further top 10 results, the end of the 1977/78 season resulted in fifth place in the giant slalom ranking. At the 1978 World Cup he was eliminated in two races.

Fournier was able to establish himself at the top of the world. After five more results among the top ten, a third place followed at the end of the 1978/79 season . In the 1979/80 season, however, a fifth place remained the best result. At the 1980 Winter Olympics , Fournier did not get past 23rd place in the slalom. The 1980/81 season went better for him : a total of six times he was among the top ten, including two further third places. These performances were enough for fifth place in the giant slalom World Cup ranking.

Although Fournier was unable to achieve a podium finish in the 1980/81 season , he remained in the top ten five times. At the 1982 World Cup , he finished eighth in the giant slalom. Fournier ended his career in March 1982 after finishing 11th in Kranjska Gora .
