Jean-Marie Dedecker (born June 13, 1952 in Nieuwpoort ) is a Belgian politician .

Life

After finishing school, Dedecker worked as a judo trainer in Belgium. At the end of the 1990s, Dedecker began to get involved in politics. In 1999 and 2003 Dedecker succeeded in entering the Senate of Belgium as senator . In 2004 Dedecker became a member of the Flemish Parliament . Dedecker was a member of the Open Vlaamse Liberalen en Democrats (VLD) party from 1999 to 2007 .

In 2006 Dedecker failed in the mayoral elections in Ostend against Johan Vande Lanotte from the Socialist Partij Anders . After the local elections in Ostend there was a conflict between Dedecker and the leadership of the VLD under Bart Somers and in January 2007 Dedecker was officially excluded from the VLD.

At the end of 2006, Dedecker briefly belonged to the Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie . But since their cartel partners, the Flemish Christian Democrats , did not want to tolerate him on the joint electoral list, he left the N-VA again.

Thereupon Dedecker founded the right-wing liberal party Lijst Dedecker on January 19, 2007 . In the federal parliamentary elections in 2007, she achieved five seats in parliament and one seat in the Senate. In the 2009 European elections, Dedecker won a seat for Lijst Dedecker in the European Parliament , which is taken by Derk Jan Eppink .
