Jean Bernard Jauréguiberry (born August 26, 1815 in Bayonne , † October 21, 1887 in Paris ) was a French admiral .

Jean Bernard Jauréguiberry joined the Navy in 1832 , fought in the Crimean War and in China, was governor of the French possessions in Senegal and was appointed rear admiral in 1869 .

After the fall of the Empire in 1870, he joined the land army, only commanded the 1st division of the XVI in the Loire Army in the fighting near Orléans in November and December 1870. Corps. In the Battle of Le Mans (January 12, 1871) he led this corps under General Chanzy himself and distinguished himself through bravery and skillful leadership of his troops.

Because of this promoted to Vice Admiral and Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor , he was elected to the National Assembly in September 1871 , but resigned in December 1871 when he became Naval Prefect in Toulon .

From February 4, 1879 to September 1880 and from January 1882 to January 1883, he administered the Ministry of the Navy in the Freycinet cabinet . He had been a senator since 1879 .

Several French ships were named after him, first the battleship Jauréguiberry , which was in service from 1893 to 1934, and finally the destroyer Jauréguiberry (D637) of the T53 class, which was in service from 1958 to 1977 .
