Jean Bied-Charreton

Jean Gustave Marie Bied-Charreton (born April 28, 1911 in Saint-Cloud , Hauts-de-Seine department , † January 2, 2003 in Paris ) was a French flotilla admiral (Contre-amiral) in the Navy .

Life

As a sea captain, Bied-Charreton was in command of the aircraft carrier Foch from 1961 to 1963

Bied-Charreton, son of Brigadier General Ferdinand Bied-Charreton , began his officer training at the Naval School (École Navale) after attending school in 1930 , which he completed from 1932 to 1933 on the training ship Jeanne d'Arc . He then took part from 1933 to 1935 as a lieutenant at sea (Enseigne de vaisseau) in operations in China on board the gunboat Doudart de Lagrée and the Aviso Dumont d 'Urville . It was then used on the La Vestale submarine between 1936 and 1937 and then attended the torpedo boat school from 1937 to 1938. After that he was chief electronics officer on the battleship Strasbourg between 1938 and 1941 and was promoted as such to lieutenant captain (Lieutenant de Vaisseau) in 1940 . He was then first officer of the Aviso L 'Impétueuse between 1941 and 1943 and then of the Aviso La Batailleuse . After retiring from active service between 1943 and 1944, he was Chief Electronics Officer from 1944 to 1946 on the battleship Richelieu , which at the time was part of the Eastern Fleet of the Royal Navy .

After Bied-Charreton was promoted to Korvettenkapitän (Capitaine de Corvette) in 1946, he found use in the General Staff of the Navy between 1946 and 1949. He was then from 1949 to 1951 in personal union both commander of the Aviso Commandant de Pimodan deployed in French Indochina and an officer in the naval staff in Saigon . Subsequently, Bied-Charreton was commander of the aircraft carrier Foch between 1961 and 1963 , which was put into service on July 15, 1963 after being launched on July 23, 1960. After a service between 1963 and 1965 in the Standing Audit Committee of the General Staff of the Navy, he was promoted to Flotilla Admiral (Contre-amiral) in 1965 and was Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Navy Commander in Mers-el-Kébir in Algeria from 1965 to 1967 . Most recently, in 1967, he became Deputy Director for the Higher Military Training of the Armed Forces and remained in this position until his retirement on October 1, 1968. For his services he was, among other things, commander of the Legion of Honor .

Bied-Charreton is an uncle of the former Rear Admiral Etienne Bied-Charreton and great-uncle of his son Yann Bied-Charreton, who is currently a sea captain.
