Jean Brenner (born April 23, 1937 - February 2009 ) was a painter from the French city ​​of Mulhouse .

life and work

He came from an artistic family in Alsace , his father Joseph was a professor of textile drawings. In 1956 Jean Brenner began his studies at the École municipale des Beaux Arts. From 1960 to 1962 he traveled through North Africa and in 1964 studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg . His work was shown in New York , Berlin and again in New York in 1971 . In 1972 he won the Palme d'Or des Beaux Arts in Monte-Carlo .

In 2008 he returned to his hometown Mulhouse with a retrospective at the Musée des Beaux Arts.

His style ranges from engravings to lithographs , drawings , collages and photography . His works are either colorful still life , the Cézanne and Monet borrowed are, or abstract portraits in black and white drawing.

In addition to French and his native Alsatian, he spoke fluent German and English.
