Jean David (born December 16, 1908 in Bucharest , Romania , † March 26, 1993 in Tel Aviv , Israel ) was a Romanian-Israeli painter and graphic artist specializing in commercial art .

Life

Jean David started painting at the age of 15. He studied art in Paris from 1927 to 1933 . In 1942 he fled Romania to Cyprus because of the persecution of the Jewish population . He served in the British Navy from 1944 to 1947 . After the Second World War , he settled in Israel in 1948. He designed posters , created wall decorations and designed products for industry. Jean David worked for many years as an advisor to the Israeli government on industrial design issues .

In 1964, his works (drafts for playing cards with biblical motifs for the airline El Al ) were shown at the documenta III in Kassel in the graphics department .
