Jean Dupong

Jean Dupong (born May 18, 1922 in Luxembourg ; † December 6, 2007 ibid) was a Luxembourg politician of the Chrëschtlech Sozial Vollekspartei (CSV), who was president of the CSV between 1965 and 1972 as well as minister of various departments. Most recently he was President of the State Council from 1991 to 1994 .

Jean Dupong, whose father Pierre Dupong was Prime Minister between 1937 and 1953 , studied law and then worked as a lawyer . In the general election on 30 May 1954 he was Social Christian for the Popular Party CSV ( Christian Social People's Party ) for the first time a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Chamber) and belonged to the 1958. In the chamber election on February 1, 1959 , he was re-elected as a member of the Chamber , to which he now belonged to January 3, 1967 after his re-election in the chamber election on June 7, 1964 . As the successor to Tony Biever , he took over the position of President of the CSV in 1965 and held this position until he was replaced by Nicolas Mosar in 1972.

According to its mandate resignation on January 3, 1967 Dupong took over in the third Government Werner the offices as Minister of Justice, Minister of National Education and Minister of Family, Youth, Population and Social Solidarity (Ministre de la Justice, Ministre de l'Education nationale, Ministre de la Famille, de la Jeunesse, de la Population et de la Solidarité sociale) . In the fourth Werner government that followed , he continued to function as Minister for National Education between February 6, 1969 and June 15, 1974, as well as Minister for Labor and Social Security (Ministre du Travail et de la Sécurité sociale) . In the chamber election on May 26, 1974 , he was re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies and again represented the CSV until June 10, 1979.

On October 24, 1979, Jean Dupong became a member of the State Council , a consultative body in the Luxembourg political system, and was a member of it until May 18, 1994. After he was its Vice President between 1988 and 1991, he replaced Gaston Thorn as President of the State Council on November 1, 1991 . He remained in this post until May 18, 1994 and was then replaced by Paul Beghin . He was also active as a member of the supervisory boards of the satellite operator SES SA , Société de Banque Suisse , Shell and for eleven years as President of the FLE (Fédération luxembourgeoise d'escrime) .
