Jean Fabre de La Martillière
Jean Fabre de La Martillière (born March 10, 1732 in Nîmes , † March 27, 1819 in Paris ) was a French Général de division of the artillery and politician.
Life
As an officer, La Martillière took part in the Seven Years' War and only returned to France after the peace treaty (February 10, 1763).
In 1780 he was promoted to colonel and two years later he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis . He took part in the campaigns of the Revolutionary Wars and was promoted to Général de brigade on August 14, 1793 .
On April 1, 1795, he was promoted to Général de division.
After the Treaty of Lunéville (February 9, 1801), La Martillière resigned from all offices and settled in Paris. There he was then appointed as a member of the government for a few years.
La Martillière died seventeen days after his 87th birthday on March 27, 1819 in Paris and found his final resting place in the Père Lachaise cemetery (39th Division, 1st Ligne).
On April 22nd of the same year General François-Marie d'Aboville read an eloquence on La Martillière in the Chambre des Pairs .
