Jean François Michel
Jean François Michel (born October 24, 1697 in Mechelen , † February 1, 1772 in Brussels ) was a lawyer and businessman from Flanders . He became known as a writer and author of an expedition diary .
From September 9, 1752 to May 28, 1754 he sailed on board the ship Burg von Emden of the Royal Prussian Asian Compagnie (KPAC) from Emden to Canton in China . Michel wrote down his experiences on board in a diary in French (“Journal de voiage à la Chine et courte description de la ville d'Embden”). The diary, an important document for the history of the East Frisian shipping, has been kept in the Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels since 1838 . The French orientalist Henri Cordier presented an apparently little-noticed edition in 1920.
