Jean II. Des Barres († 1324 at the siege of La Réole ), Chevalier, Seigneur de Chaumont-sur-Yonne on behalf of his wife, was Marshal of France during the reign of King Philip V of France .

Life

In 1311, Jean II. Des Barres was sent from France to Lorraine , together with Anseau de Joinville and Simon de Menou, as conseiller étroit of Philip IV , to negotiate with Duke Theobald II over the royal rights in the Passavant-en-Argonne area. When the king came into possession of the Donzy area , which had been confiscated by the Count of Flanders, Jean II. Des Barres presented himself to the Bishop of Auxerre in March 1314 to pay homage in his place.

King Philip V made him Marshal of France in November 1318 in place of the late Jean de Corbeil . On September 27, 1319 he sent him together with Pierre de Galard, Grand Master of Crossbowmen , to Robert III. from Flanders to invite him to the French king for Christmas Day.

With his patent letter of January 19, 1320 Philip V secured him a pension of 500 livres parisis on the land and the taxable men of Pont-Belin , which he could claim as long as he held the office of marshal. This pension is based on that of Evry and others in the Bailliage of Troyes . The tax recipient of Champagne resisted until Jean II. De Barres on March 19, 1321 reached a judgment of the Chambre des comptes in his favor. A letter from King Charles IV in January 1322 confirmed this pension.

Jean II. De Barres died in 1324 during the siege of La Réole .

He married Helissans de Prunay, Dame de Chaumont-sur-Yonne, heir to Guillaume, Sire de Prunay, and Gillette; she died after 1347 and was buried in Oissery . The couple had two sons, Pierre des Barres and Jean III. des barres.
