Jean d'Arces

Jean d'Arces (* around 1370 ; † December 12, 1454 in Moûtiers ) was Archbishop of Tarentaise from 1438 until his death .

Life

Jean came from a noble family from the near Grenoble parish of Saint-Ismier. He graduated with a licentiate of canon law and was Augustinian Canons . In 1415 he was prior of Saint-Valentin in Bissy , from 1419 to 1438 as the successor to his uncle Hugues Provost of the Hospice on the Great St. Bernhard and in 1438 was appointed Archbishop of Tarentaise. He took part in the Council of Basel and was a participant in the conclave that Felix V elected in 1439 . In 1444 he appointed him (pseudo) cardinal of Santi Nereo ed Achilleo . After submitting to Pope Nicholas V , the latter renewed his appointment as Cardinal of Santi Nereo ed Achilleo in the consistory of 1449 .

After his death on December 12, 1454, he was buried in Moûtiers, Savoy.
