Jean de Bertrand

Jean de Bertrand (* in the 14th century ; † September 24, 1432 ) was Bishop of Geneva from 1408 to 1418 and Archbishop of Tarentaise from 1418 to 1432 .

Life

Jean de Bertrand comes from the Tarentaise . He was the son of Pierre, lord of La Pérouse and Chamousset and Antoinette Séchal, a sister of Aymon Séchal. He completed a degree in civil law in Montpellier and Orléans with a doctorate. From 1378 Jean was Canon in Sion , from 1394 to 1405 dean of Valeria , 1402 vicar general and official of the Archdiocese of Tarentaise. In 1405 he was canon in Chartres and Geneva . In 1405 and 1408 he was an official in Geneva, became vicar general in 1408 and, from December 14, 1408, bishop of Geneva. He took part in the Council of Constance in 1417 and was a member of the conclave that Pope Martin V elected. From 1418 until his death in 1432, Jean de Bertrand was Archbishop of Tarentaise.
