Jean de Rochetaillée , also Jean de La Rochetaillée (* in the 14th century in Rochetaillée near Lyon ; † March 24, 1437 in Bologna ) was Titular Latin Patriarch of Constantinople , Bishop of Geneva and Paris , Archbishop of Rouen , Administrator of the Archdiocese of Besançon and Cardinal .

Life

His real name, Jean de Font, came from a humble background in the Lyon area . Jean was a priest at Lyon Cathedral in 1392 and acquired the title of Doctor iuris utriusque . He worked at the papal chancellery and was in 1412 by John XXIII. , an antipope , was appointed Latin Patriarch of Constantinople. Martin V appointed him administrator of Geneva in 1418. He opposed the efforts of Count Amadeus VIII of Savoy to gain supremacy over Geneva . In 1422 Jean exchanged the diocese with the Parisian bishop Jean Courtecuisse , in 1423 he became Archbishop of Rouen, in 1426 cardinal , in 1429 he became administrator of the Archdiocese of Besançon. He took part in the Council of Basel in 1432 and became Vice Chancellor of the Roman Church in 1434.

He died in Bologna on Palm Sunday 1437 and was buried in Lyon Cathedral.
