Jean de Valois, comte d'Angoulême
Jean d'Orléans (* 1399 ; † April 30, 1467 ), called le Bon (German: the good ), was Count of Angoulême and Périgord . He was a son of Duke Louis d'Orléans and Valentina Visconti , so on his father's side he was a grandson of King Charles V of France . Life
Jean was handed over as a hostage to the English in 1412 , who held him for 32 years until 1444. In 1438 he sold the county of Périgord to Jean de Châtillon , Count of Penthièvre . After his release, he fought in the Guyenne in 1451 under the command of his half-brother Jean de Dunois . Jean was buried in Angoulême Cathedral.
