There she graduated from the German-speaking Galabow-Gymnasium and studied acting at the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts "Krastjo Sarafow" . During her studies Spassova met the writer and director Ivan Stanev. She was one of the founding members of his first theater group and developed with him an independent theatrical language, which caused a lot of excitement at the censorship authority in the then Eastern Bloc state of Bulgaria and which temporarily banned Stanev from working.

In 1987 Spassova took up an engagement at the Sofia State Theater, where she made her debut in the role of Marie in Stanev's production, Die Wunde Woyzeck . In 1988, Heiner Müller invited the production to West Berlin . After the guest appearance at the Heiner-Müller factory show , Stanev did not return to Bulgaria. In 1989 he invited Spassova to Munich , where she took on the leading role in Stanev's collage Betrogen / Gestern after a sunny afternoon at the Munich studio theater .

In 1990 Jeanette Spassova moved to Berlin , founded a free international theater group with Stanev and first appeared in the Hebbel Theater and Podewil .

In 1996 she was engaged at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and worked in numerous productions by Frank Castorf , Christoph Marthaler , Penelope Wehrli and others until 2000 . a. With. Spassova then worked as a freelance actress in Basel ( Theater Basel ), Munich ( Münchner Kammerspiele ), Salzburg ( Salzburg Festival ) and continued her collaboration with Ivan Stanev and his ensemble in Berlin and France.

In 2004 she returned to the Berliner Volksbühne, where she remained as a permanent member of the ensemble until 2017.

In addition to working at the theater, Spassova has appeared in many radio plays and audio books.

As a film actress, she was first seen in Tom Toelles Bismarck , in Stanev's Villa dei Misteri and Luxor Las Vegas, and in Castorf's Demons and The Idiot .
