Jeanne Barseghian (born December 6, 1980 in Suresnes ( Île-de-France )) is a French politician of the Europe Ecologie Les Verts and incumbent mayor of Strasbourg .

Life

She grew up in Paris and Normandy , completed a bilingual legal education (German-French law) and spent part of her studies in Münster , Westphalia, for two years . Barseghian specialized in environmental law during her career, graduating from the Robert Schuman University . Barseghian also has additional training as an environmental consultant, which she completed at the “Institut ECO Conseil” in Strasbourg.

Professional career

After completing her studies, she advised companies, municipalities and associations on economic, social and ecological issues for several years. In particular, she works for the Regional Council of Alsace ( Conseil régional d'Alsace ) to develop sustainable tourism around the Rhine.

In 2012 she rejoined the Regional Council of Alsace, working for the ecological group, in particular for the Joint Council of Alsace and the future of the territory of Fessenheim . She continued her advisory work in the health sector on the ecological conversion of several hospitals.

Political career

In 2002 Barseghian was involved in associations, in "Alsace Nature" and in the "Groupement d'études et de protection des mammifères d'Alsace" (GEPMA, protection for mammals ). She joins the Europe Écologie-Les Verts in 2013 during the Strasbourg city campaign. She was responsible for the campaign's political program and was number four on the list. In 2014 she was elected councilor for the city of Strasbourg and the Eurométropole de Strasbourg . She was appointed co-chair of the ecology group of the city of Strasbourg and was delegate for social and solidarity economy and waste reduction until 2018 . In 2015 she was again co-responsible for the program of Sandrine Bélier , the presidential candidate of the Grand Est region .

In October 2019, a “citizens' assembly” appointed her to chair the list for the 2020 local elections in Strasbourg. Her list “Strasbourg ecological and civic” is supported by left-wing political parties, including Europe Écologie Les Verts .

In the second ballot were Jeanne Barseghian's competitors Alain Fontanel ( La République en Marche , Les Républicains) and Catherine Trautmann ( Parti Socialiste ). Barseghian's list received 41.70% of the vote and she won the office of mayor.
