Jeannine Altmeyer

Jeannine Altmeyer (born May 2, 1948 in La Habra near Los Angeles ) is an American opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Theresa Jeannine Altmeyer's family is of German-Italian descent. She was a student of Betty Olssen , Martial Singher , Lotte Lehmann and George London . In 1970 she won first prize in a singing competition at the Metropolitan Opera , which involved a beginner's engagement. In 1973 she engaged Herbert von Karajan as Freia im Rheingold for the Salzburg Opera Festival. The soprano had previously sung this role successfully on the Chicago opera stage . In the same year she became a member of the Zurich Opera House ensemble . From 1975 to 1979 Jeannine Altmeyer was a member of the Stuttgart Opera ensemble . There she shone with great success in operas by Richard Strauss , a. a. as Salome and Chrysothemis. The singer has also made guest appearances at the stages in Amsterdam, Frankfurt / Main, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Paris, Los Angeles, at La Scala in Milan and repeatedly at the Metropolitan Opera. Jeannine Altmeyer was a celebrated singer at the Bayreuth Festival . In 1979 she sang Sieglinde in Die Walküre with Peter Hofmann as Siegmund under Pierre Boulez . She also sang Isolde and Gutrune in Bayreuth.

In addition to her stage presence, the singer was an internationally sought-after song, concert and oratorio singer. Today she works mainly as a singing teacher and leads many master classes.
