action

A radio reporter walks through the streets of Berlin and asks young people what they think about happiness. One of the interviewees is Heiner, a 19-year-old young man who earns his money as a moppel driver (electric cart driver) in a large company and he is ready to tell a little more.

About a year after finishing school, he happened to meet his former classmate Lore in a café. She moved out with her parents and now lives with her grandmother, which she doesn't really like either. Heiner's mother died not long ago and now he lives alone in the two-room apartment in Prenzlauer Berg. So he offers Lore to move in with him, which she does. A love develops between them, but when Heiner wants to qualify in the profession, Lore gets very angry about it. The course will take place near Leipzig for several weeks. After his return, Lore has a friend visiting the apartment and Heiner doesn't believe the excuse that it's just a colleague from the company. She then confesses to him that she fell in love with him and that he would be completely different from Heiner. The new guy has a motorcycle, keeps buying her all kinds of things and always has time for her. Now Heiner realizes that Lore is only after the material and she leaves the apartment forever.

After being alone for a while, Heiner meets Susanne, who is behind the counter in a restaurant. She is at least as pretty as Lore and he falls in love again. Above all, he now thinks that his experiences have made him smarter. He spoils Susanne with gifts wherever he can, even if they have to work a lot of overtime. He doesn't have the time or inclination for further training, he wants to buy a motorcycle and Susanne should stop working so that the guests can't keep looking at her. But Susanne is completely different from Lore and she separates from him.

In the course of time Heiner realizes what he has done wrong and tries to win Susanne back for himself.
