Jeff Shaara

Jeffrey Michael "Jeff" Shaara (born February 21, 1952 in New Brunswick , New Jersey ) is an American military writer .

Life

Jeff Shaara has Italian roots and was born in New Jersey in 1952 as the son of Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Shaara (1929–1988) . He grew up in Tallahassee , Florida and studied criminology at Florida State University there . After graduating (BS 1973), he moved to Tampa and initially worked in the coin and precious metal trade until he sold it when his father died.

Shaara has been the author of numerous historical novels since the 1990s, some of which have won awards and were featured on The New York Times Best Seller list . The historical drama Gods and Generals (1996) was filmed by Warner Bros. , directed by Ronald F. Maxwell . He has also taught several literary courses as part of the National Endowment for the Arts Operation Homecoming program . From 2007 to 2014 he was on the Board of Governors of the Civil War Trust.

He is married and now lives in Gettysburg , Pennsylvania .
