Jeffrey Victor "Jeff" Sutherland (born June 20, 1941 ) is an American software developer . He is co-founder of the project management framework Scrum and works as a consultant for this procedural model.

Life

After studying at the United States Military Academy and Stanford University , Sutherland earned his doctorate in biometry and radiology at the University of Colorado in 1980 , where he taught as an assistant professor until 1983. Sutherland developed Scrum together with his development team at Easel in the early 1990s. Together with Ken Schwaber , he formalized the framework in 1994, which Schwaber presented to the public for the first time at the 1995 OOPSLA . Sutherland is one of 17 signatories of the Agile Manifesto (2001). In 2006 he founded Scrum Inc., which has also been offering Scrum certifications since 2019 (Licensed Scrum Program). Since 2009 he has been publishing the Scrum Guide with Ken Schwaber.
