Jefim Gechtman

Jefim Gechtman ( Russian Ефим Гехтман ; scientific transliteration Efim Gechtman ; born 1914 ; died 1977 ) was a Soviet journalist and publicist . He is an important contemporary witness for the Holocaust and the crimes of the Wehrmacht in Ukraine (his homeland) and in Riga ( Latvia ). During the war he worked as a front-line reporter . He had the rank of captain . He wrote for the army newspaper Red Star ( Krasnaya Zvezda ). He was a contemporary witness of the invasion of the Wehrmacht in Riga on July 1, 1941 . For the black book he contributed: In the homeland ( Brailow , Ukraine) and Riga (Latvia).
