Jena is a town and the administrative seat of La Salle Parish in US -amerikanischen State Louisiana . In 2000 Jena had 2,971 inhabitants; by the 2014 estimate, the population had increased to 3,387.
history
The city was founded in 1906 and named after the Thuringian university town of Jena , where exactly 100 years earlier, in 1806, Napoleon's troops had won a triumphant victory over Prussia ( Battle of Jena and Auerstedt ).
In September 2007, the place made headlines beyond the borders of the USA . Over 10,000 people demonstrated there against a judicial verdict against six black youths that was perceived as racist . Incidents at a school had previously caused a stir in the small town. The case was best known through a protest song called " Jena Six ", which was published on YouTube .
