Summary

In his book Von Adorno zu Mao , published in 2010, Jens Benicke analyzes the reception of critical theory and also addresses the discussion of the radical political left over National Socialism . The work is essentially divided into four sections:

reception

“In addition to many well-known things, Benicke describes in particular how the K-groups gave free rein to original German resentment whenever they were confronted with the National Socialist past and the critical theory to which the anti-authoritarian movement owed essential insights. If the rebellious students - before the height of their movement, however - had dealt very specifically with the continued effects of the Nazi regime, a formulaic term of fascism was now used with recourse to Georgi Dimitrov, which was tantamount to relieving the German population and trivializing the annihilation of European Jews. "

- Felix Baum : taz

“Benicke's book fills a research gap, as the interaction between critical theory and leftist movement history has so far been investigated primarily for the early phase of the student protest movement. "From Adorno to Mao" is a successful study of the theoretical development of the K-groups - and it is to be welcomed that the author focuses on a relentless criticism of this bizarre section of the history of the left. "

- Hanning : beatpunk.org

“Benicke has made a contribution to the debates about the history of the West German left that is well worth reading. With the focus on critical theory and analysis of fascism, the question remains whether the K groups did not represent emancipatory positions with regard to company work, solidarity with Vietnam and Chile and with “guest workers”, the fight against occupational bans and state repression. Perhaps Benicke overestimated the importance of critical theory for 1968. "
