The Centaurus Verlag & Media UG (limited liability) was a German publisher who mainly scientific literature published from various fields and had its headquarters in Baden-Wuerttemberg. On January 1, 2015, Springer VS took over the publisher's book program.

history

The publishing house named after the mythical creature Kentaur was founded in 1983 in Pfaffenweiler as a specialist scientific publisher and moved to Herbolzheim in 2000 . The publishing house was bought by Viljem Mocnik, managing director of Primotec-Printware. After the German branch of Memento Verlag was closed at the end of March 2009 , Petra Sanft, the head of the marketing department there, took over Centaurus Verlag. Through the publisher she organized the sale of the Memento legal manuals. In addition, the publishing office moved to the Kaiser-Joseph-Straße in Freiburg , but the seat was still Herbolzheim. The publisher belonged to the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels and has been cooperating with the Social Science Open Access Repository as well as with the pedocs publication platform of the educational portal since 2011 . The publisher Petra Sanft died in 2013. On January 1, 2015, Springer VS took over the publishing house, the program will continue under the name Edition Centaurus .

program

The publishing program is divided into two areas. Once in the area of centaurus sciences , in which studies of law and economics, educational and social sciences, language, cultural and art studies as well as history and philosophy are transferred. Here the publisher specializes in scientific monographs, the publication of dissertations and habilitation theses, anthologies and conference volumes, as well as diploma, bachelor, master and theses. The magazine Sozialeprobleme has been part of the portfolio since 1990 .

On the other hand, non-fiction books, guides and essayistic literature are published under centaurus edition . In 2007, the series Lebensformen (edited by Ulrich Beer ) and, since 2011, the Centaurus Paper Apps appeared in this area .

In total, Centaurus Verlag publishes over 100 series. Centaurus collaborates with professors and university institutes as editors on many of these series. Marianne Kosmann, Katja Nowacki and Ahmet Toprak from the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences publish the series Gender and Diversity . Wolfgang U. Eckart from the University of Heidelberg also publishes the Modern History of Medicine and Science Series . In particular, the legal and criminological series, such as the studies published by Bernd Schünemann and Klaus Tiedemann on white collar crime, have made the publisher known. The publishing program comprised around 1,800 titles in mid-2011, and around 100 new publications are added each year.
