Ditmar Brock

Ditmar Brock (* 1947 in Stuttgart ; † April 25, 2020 in Bad Kötzting ) was a German sociologist .

Career

After graduating from high school in Stuttgart (1967) Brock studied sociology with minor subjects psychology and economics at the universities of Tübingen and Munich , where he obtained his diploma in 1972. From 1973 he worked at the University of Munich within the framework of a special research area on topics of social science occupational and labor research. In 1981 he received his doctorate from the University of Bremen on the subject of everyday working life . From 1973 to 1989 Brock was a research assistant at the German Youth Institute and did research in particular on socialization in the company.

In 1989 he completed his habilitation at the University of Frankfurt (title of the habilitation thesis: The difficult path to modernity. Upheavals in the lifestyle of German workers between 1850 and 1980 ). He then represented Ulrich Beck at the University of Bamberg for two years and was then in 1992/93 Beck's research assistant in the Change in Lifestyle project . From 1993 Brock was professor for sociology at the TU Chemnitz , most recently as emeritus .

Until the early 1980s Brock was considered a representative of subject-oriented industrial sociology ; but then he turned to the sociological theory of modern societies.
