Jens Knobloch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jens Knobloch (* 1944 ) is an engineer and scientist who has made important contributions to the development of microelectronics in Dresden during his 40 years in industry and research.

Live and act

Jens Knobloch received his doctorate from the Technical University of Dresden and from 1973 worked on the design of highly integrated circuits at the Dresden Research Center for Molecular Electronics (AMD, later IMD, ZMD ) . With the development of highly complex circuits such as pocket calculators and memory chips , he has largely broken new ground, especially in the interaction of design and manufacturing technology. His work as chief designer for the chip design of the modular microprocessor system U83 with the U830C as the processor element and for the development of the megabit memory U61000 should be emphasized . For these projects he received the GDR National Prize for Science and Technology twice in 1980 and 1988 .

In the 1990s, Jens Knobloch campaigned for the preservation of the microelectronics industry and research in Saxony and Dresden. He played a major role in the takeover of his design team at the Fraunhofer Society . At the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems (today IPMS Dresden ) he worked on artificial intelligence and was involved in the strategic orientation of the institute until 2009, whereby he was particularly committed to application-oriented research.
