Jeremy Camp
Jeremy Thomas Camp (born January 12, 1978 in Lafayette , Indiana ) is an American songwriter.
Life
Camp's parents, Tom and Terry Owen Camp, are pastors at Harvest Church in his hometown. After graduating from Lafayette High School, Camp went to Southern California to attend Bible school . It was there that his musical talent was discovered and he began to lead worship work at his college. There he also met Melissa, his future wife.
In 2000 he recorded the indie album Burden Me , which is difficult to find today. Some time later, Melissa was diagnosed with cancer . Jeremy asked for her hand in the hospital. He was sure that she would beat cancer. Five months later, after surviving chemotherapy, he married her. But during the honeymoon, Melissa got a stomach ache and learned that she only had a few months to live. She died on February 5, 2001.
Jeremy dealt with his pain especially with the songs Walk by Faith and I Still Believe on his debut album Stay , which was released in 2002. With the album he caused a sensation in the USA for the first time. The disc became known nationally - not least because many people were moved and encouraged by the story of the musician. In the following years he went on tour with Rebecca St. James and the Newsboys .
In 2004 he received the Dove Award for best singer and best newcomer. On tour he met his second wife Adrienne Liesching (ex-front woman of " The Benjamin Gate "), whom he married that same year. The couple now have two daughters (Isabella and Arianne Mae). In February 2004, Jeremy Camp released a worship album called Carried Me . However, the songs, which are not all by himself, have been completely revised and some of them are quite rocky. His third CD, Restored , came out towards the end of the year . It describes how much he suffered but found strength through faith.
In 2005 he contributed the song Open Up Your Eyes to the film “ Narnia ” . In early 2006 he released his first unplugged CD, which contains songs from his last albums. His music is based on Creed , Matchbox Twenty and Dave Matthews with very personal lyrics. Other well-known songs by Jeremy Camp are Take You Back and This Man .
In 2020 the biopic I Still Believe was published.
