Jeri Sopanen

Jeri Rainer Sopanen (born August 14, 1929 in Helsinki , Finland , † September 21, 2008 in New York City ) was an American cameraman of Finnish origin.

Life

Jeri Rainer Sopanen attended Helsingin normaalilyseo , where he graduated in 1948. He then studied composition at the Sibelius Academy until 1951 . With the help of a Fulbright scholarship , he studied at Lawrence University in Wisconsin , developing his interest in film and then studying at the UCLA film school .

Sopanen stayed in the US and began working as a cameraman for documentaries in the late 1950s. His most famous work was the television series Secrets of the Sea with Jacques-Yves Cousteau . He has made television films such as It Came From Below and A Millionaire, and was twice nominated for an Emmy , receiving it in 1989 for the sitcom 3-2-1 Contact .

Sopanen died on September 21, 2008 at the age of 79 from complications from cancer in his home in New York City. He left behind his wife, three children and three stepchildren.
