Jerkbaits

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jerkbaits (from English to jerk = jerk and bait = bait) are artificial baits for fishing . They represent a special form of the wobbler . By moving the fishing rod , they imitate a fleeing and struck prey fish, which arouses the interest of the predators through the glitter as they flee. Jerkbait fishing is a type of spin fishing .

nature

They are often made of hard plastic or balsa wood and are usually between 10 and 25 cm in size. Jerkbaits are available as Diver (moves jerkily up and down due to the guide) and Glider (swings to the side when retrieving), both in floating and sinking versions. In contrast to conventional wobblers , some jerkbaits are provided with a small, flexible metal shovel on the rear part (diving shovel) to influence the diving depth. Jerkbaits often do not have their own bait barrel and therefore have to be jerked with a hard rod.

Prey and tail

The main prey when "jerking" in Europe is the pike , from time to time even large perch attack the bait. Jerkbaits are guided on the surface. The rod should be short and hard for jerkbait fishing and have a reel seat on the top to improve balance when using a multiplier reel. There are braided cords used because they allow better contact with the bait. The most commonly used type is the role Baitcasterrolle , a small multiplier reel .
