Jerreh Daffeh

Jerreh Lang Bumari Daffeh (* 1930 - August 7, 1998 in California ) was a Gambian politician of the People's Progressive Party ( PPP ) , who was Minister of Health between 1962 and 1965 and Minister of Agriculture from 1978 to 1981 .

Life

Jerreh long Bumari Daffeh was from the people of Mandinka derived Muslim and nephew of Seyfou Karamo K. Sanneh of Kiang West . He was a graduate of Armitage High School, named after Governor Cecil Hamilton Armitage , along with other later leading politicians, and worked for the British Gambia Colony Veterinary Office in the 1950s and 1960s . He was treasurer of a district in this colony and was arrested for misappropriating public funds. Nevertheless, he was in the parliamentary elections in British Gambia in 1960 as a candidate of the Progressive People's Party PPP ( People's Progressive Party ) in the constituency Kiang with 2,136 votes (55.35 percent) for the first time a member of the House of Representatives ( House of Representatives ) elected. In the following parliamentary elections in British Gambia in 1962 he was re-elected for the PPP in the constituency of Niamina and this time won 3480 votes (78.17 percent).

Subsequently, in June 1962, Daffeh was appointed by Prime Minister Dawda Jawara to his first cabinet , where he was Minister of Health until he was replaced by Ebrima D. N'Jie in 1964 . In the parliamentary elections in Gambia on May 26, 1966 , he was re-elected to the House of Representatives with 2995 votes (83.38 percent) in what is now the constituency of Eastern Kiang . In the parliamentary elections on March 28 and 29, 1972 , he was unanimously re-elected with 100 percent in the constituency of Eastern Kiang for the PPP without opposing candidates. In the parliamentary elections that followed on April 4 to 5, 1977 , he was re-elected to the House of Representatives in the Eastern Kiang constituency with 2917 votes (76.46 percent).

In August 1978, Jerreh Daffeh took over from Yaya Ceesay in the Jawara IV cabinet as Minister of Agriculture , which he held until he was replaced by Seni Singhateh in January 1981. In the parliamentary elections on May 4 and 5, 1982 , he surprisingly suffered in his constituency Eastern Kiang with 1539 votes (36.4 percent) a significant defeat against the non-party Kebba O. Fadera (2689 votes, 63.6 percent) and retired 22 years of parliamentary membership in the House of Representatives.
