Jerry Hopper

Jerry Hopper (born July 29, 1907 in Guthrie , Oklahoma , † December 17, 1988 in San Clemente , California ) was an American director .

life and career

Jerry Hopper was born in Guthrie, a small town in Oklahoma. He initially worked as a radio writer and casting director , later serving in World War II and working as a film editor for Paramount Pictures . From 1946 Hopper received smaller engagements as a director. Initially, he mainly directed musical short films. From the beginning of the 1950s, he mainly made B-films . Among other things, he shot the adventure film Mistress of the Lawless with Yvonne De Carlo , the dark film noir Schwaches Alibi (1953) with Sterling Hayden and the drama Nur You alone (1956) with Rock Hudson . With actor Charlton Heston in the lead role, he shot a total of three films between 1953 and 1955. From the late 1950s onwards, Hopper worked primarily as a director for numerous US television series. In 1970 he shot the Western Madron in Israel . After directing a television film in 1972, Hopper retired from the film business.

Jerry Hopper was married three times; first marriage from 1937 to 1945 with actress Marsha Hunt . He was a cousin of actress Glenda Farrell .
