Jerry Jost

Gerald Gordon "Jerry" Jost (born October 5, 1929 in Detroit , Michigan , United States , † December 30, 2014 in Wenatchee , Washington , United States) was an American sound engineer for Hollywood films from the 1970s to 1990s.

Gerald G. Jost came to Los Angeles at a young age and after completing his electrical engineering training initially found a job as a sound technician assistant at small film production companies. It was not until the age of 40 that he was promoted to chief sound engineer, but initially he wasn't tied to any company, but worked as a sound mixer and sound engineer for small companies as well as for major companies such as MGM , Paramount Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox .

In his only 20 years as a chief sound engineer, Jerry Jost oversaw mostly A-productions, including numerous comedies, most recently several times by Blake Edwards . In 1978 he and his colleagues Theodore Soderberg, Paul Wells and Douglas O. Williams received an Oscar nomination for his sound performance in the dancer drama Am Wendpunkt . In 1991 Gerald G. Jost retired from his film work and settled in Washington state.
