Jerzy Katlewicz

Jerzy Katlewicz (born April 2, 1927 in Bochnia ; † November 16, 2015 in Krakow ) was a Polish conductor and music teacher .

Life

Katlewicz studied piano as well as composition and conducting with Artur Malawski at the Kraków Music Academy .

From 1949 to 1952 he was musical director of the Groteska Theater in Kraków . From 1952 to 1957 he was musical director and conductor of the Kraków Philharmonic, 1958–1961 artistic director of the Poznan Philharmonic , and 1961–1968 director of the Danzig Philharmonic . From 1968 to 1981 he was director of the Cracow Philharmonic, then director of the National Radio Orchestra in Cracow. From 1979 to 1982 he was artistic director of the Noordhollands Philharmonisch Orkest , Haarlem, Holland.

As a guest conductor, he led orchestras in all European countries as well as in Japan, Mongolia, China, Australia, New Zealand and Central America (Cuba, Mexico) and in the Middle East (Lebanon and Iraq).

Katlewicz took a conducting class at the Krakow Music Academy in 1972. In 1983 he received the title of professor.
