Jessika Westen (born March 7, 1980 in Wuppertal ) is a German journalist , television presenter and writer .

Career

Jessika Westen already worked as an author for the Remscheider General-Anzeiger during her school days . From 2000 to 2002 she completed an editorial traineeship at NBC GIGA and the German TV News Agency (DFA). At NBC GIGA, she moderated the Netbeat section (computer and internet news , science and technology) on NBC Europe from May 2000 and gained her first experience in front of the camera.

Awards

Jessika Westen was at the Duisburg Love Parade for WDR in 2010 and reported on the disaster. For her “outstanding performance” as a live reporter, she was honored on May 7, 2011 at the award ceremony of the Axel Springer Prize .

Book publication

On June 25, 2020, 10 years after the events in Duisburg, her book DANCE OR DIE: The Love Parade Catastrophe. A novel. published by Emons Verlag . In collaboration with relatives, victims, eyewitnesses and first aiders, Jessika Westen traces the course of the tragedy in her debut as a writer and describes the events from three narrative perspectives.
