Jesus Skins is a Christian Oi! -Band from Hamburg . She is considered to be the inventor and the only representative of Christian Oi music in Germany.

history

The band was founded in spring 1997 by Mathäus, Markus, Lukas and Johannes. The pseudonyms are allusions to the four evangelists . Mathäus, Markus and Lukas were already active as children in a church youth group in the 1980s and made music together around the campfire with the Christian scouts. After a trip to London in 1991, Mathäus became enthusiastic about the English Oi! Scene and the associated skinhead cult and was also able to infect his friends with the enthusiasm. Several devout Oi! Skinheads and Renees who called themselves the Jesus Skins quickly got together. Then came a second guitarist with Judas.

In December 1997 the band performed for the first time. A little later Judas was excluded from the band because of unchristian behavior and was replaced by Georg as the second singer . Extensive tours in Germany and neighboring countries followed .

After the single 8 Fists for a Hallelujah , they released the album Our Cross Needs No Hooks in 2002 . The sound carrier deals ironically with the connection between Christians and skinheads. A split CD with Jewdriver was made in 2004. The Jesus Skins cover old German punk classics and give the lyrics a Christian touch. Among other things, they changed the slogan ACAB to All Christians, all broad and the song Forever Punk of the Golden Lemons to Forever Christ . Guest singers on this song include Bela B. from Die Ärzte and Dirk Jora from Slime . In 2004, Our Cross Needs No Hooks was reissued, but this time with the piece 77 is called Grüß Gott in a censored version, because lines of text of the song would meet the criminal offense of "insulting creeds, religious communities etc."

Parts of the Jesus Skins played with the Hamburg Oi! Band Eight Balls until they were dissolved in 2012 .
